Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Janet Agbede and the former chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia state, Mr. Augustine Ehiemere are facing contempt of court charges over violation of a judgment of the Court of Appeal, Owerri.
The Court of Appeal, Owerri, had on April 7, 2022, declared Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu as the authentic chairman of APGA in Abia state.
However, the defendants; Agbede, Ehiemere and Adike , had allegedly refused to comply with the order. Ukaegbu had filed a suit at the state High court claiming that the Commissioner of Police, Ehiemere and Adike, has failed to obey the order of the court by refusing to recognize him as the chairman of the party
Following the disobedience of the order, a High court sitting in Umuahia,  Abia State, has ordered that notice of contempt of court, (Form 48), be served on the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Janet Agbede; Rev. Augustine Ehiemere and a Superintendent of Police, Robert Adike, and Mr. Sunday Onukwubiri, over alleged violation of the order.
In suit No; HU/229/2022 between Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu (claimant) and Augustine Ehiemere, Commissioner of Police, Abia State and Sup. Robert Adike (Defendants), the court warned the defendants about the consequences of disobedience to its order.
According to the court; “Take note that unless you obey the direction contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.”
Sources told Pointblanknews.com  that as soon as the Court ordered the service of the notice of contempt on the respondent, Ehiemere led some hoodlums who broke into the APGA state office , insisting that Ukaegbu cannot be the chairman of the party in the state , that they would not obey any court order, even  if it is from the Supreme court.
