Former Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, ABSU,Uturu, Prof. Uche Ikonne, has been declared winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primaries in Abia State.
Ikonne polled 468 to defeat Mr. Lucky Igbokwe who got 45 votes, while Mrs Ezenwanyi Jonah scored 5 votes.
Seven aspirants including the State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu; Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe; former Abia PDP chairman, Senator Emma Nwaka; Dr. Sampson Orji; Dr. Chima Anyaso and Chief Ncheta Elvis Omerekpe,had withdrawn from the race ,alleging use of fake delegate list to conduct the primary election and nun compliance with rules of the party.
544 votes was the total number of votes cast while eight votes were void.
The returning Officer of the primary election, Chief Ayo Fayose declared Ikonne as the winner of the election.
Ikonne, in his acceptance speech, pledged to run a participatory government if he is elected governor of the state .
He urged aggrieved members to help the party to win the election.
