Abia top monarch, Eze Enweremadu goes home as Buhari, Ikpeazu,  Atiku, pay tribute

All roads led to the Ahiaba community in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State, yesterday, as the traditional head of Ngwa land,  Eze Bernard Enweremadu, was buried with President Muhamadu Buhari, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, paying tribute to the fallen monarch.

It was a capacity crowd at the Okpuala Stadium, venue of the funeral ceremony, as eminent persons, politicians, monarchs and captains of industries from across the federation were on hand to pay their last respect to the late revered monarch.

In his tribute, President Muhamadu Buhari, who was represented said by the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, described the departed monarch as a reputable King in Igbo land, and commiserated with his family and Abia state over his death.

The President said Eze Enweremadu served the state and the nation in many capacities and left many legacies.

Also speaking, Abia State Governor, Dr.  Okezie Ikpeazu said the Ngwa nation, Abia State and Igbo land had lost a great man and described the late Enweremadu as a monarch who sacrificed so much for the development of Ngwa land ,Abia state and Nigeria.

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, in his remarks, said the late monarch was the symbol the of Ngwa tradition.

According to the Senator, “It got to a point where he was the only person everybody had to go to for our political emancipation.” Former President Goodluck Jonathan described the late monarch as a true patriot who served the state and nation well.

To former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orj, Eze Ekweremadu will be remembered for the many legacies he left behind, while former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, said Enweremadu was a special traditional ruler.

In his speech, Chief mourner and first son of the late monarch, Christopher Enweremadu, described his late father as a man of peace and a role model and promised that the family will uphold the ideals of he stood for.

Eze Enweremadu aged 77, ascended the throne on October 23, 1976, at the age of 33. He was the 13th traditional head of Ngwa land, and passed on 17th January, 2021 after 44 years on the throne. He is survived by 14 wives and 77 children.
