Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is known to talk tough in matters that concerns Ndigbo but will never utter a word when it concerns other ethnic nationalities.
Senator Abaribe while speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show Friday said, President Buhari’s threat of unleashing civil war on the “misbehaving” Igbos should worry the people of the South East as civil war is not what any reasonable person would want to experience again.
He continued that with all the killings taking place in Northern Nigeria, the president has not threatened the killer herdsmen with war even with all the mayhem perpetrated by the group. He wonders why the South East case would always be different.
According to him, “the imbalance treatment from the president, injustice, and inequality are the root causes of violence and agitation in the south East.”
On the role of south East leaders in de-escalating the tension in the zone, the senator said “the southeast caucus in the House of Representatives condemned the violence going on in the South East. We can only dialogue with the president to trace the problems of rising insecurity in the South East and decipher solutions.
“The response from the Federal Government is not aimed at bringing peace but to instigate ethnic division. Buhari should embrace everybody in Nigeria and stops threatening people with civil war. It is only when something happens in the South East that the president finds his voice.
“The Government needs to unravel the criminal syndicates terrorizing our country. They should conduct an in-depth investigation to unravel and arrest these criminals”, the Sen. Abaribe asserted adding that government should leave their options open until we get to the root of it.
