Eight persons have lost their lives while seven were injured as a bus crashed into a truck near Umuikaa junction along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
Eyewitnesses told Pointblanknews.com that accident involving the bus, with the inscription, ‘Egbon Motors’ had rammed into a stationary truck leaving eight passengers dead on the spot.
The truck was said to have broken down in the middle of the expressway, but there were no signs to warn motorists of the situation.
“The truck broke down in the middle of the expressway and there was no visible sign to warn motorists. It is like the driver mistook it for a moving truck and crashed into it,” an eyewitness said.
The victims were soaked with blood as men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and sympathizers struggled to separate the dead victims from those that were still breathing.
Abia State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Mr Paul Ugwu, who gave details of the casualty figure, said 15 persons were involved, 12 male adults and three female adults.
He confirmed that eight passengers died at the spot and had been deposited at a mortuary in the area while the injured were taken to the hospital.
He urged motorists to avoid over speeding to enable them control their vehicle in the case of any emergency situation.
