A political group in Abia North senatorial zone of Abia State under the aegis of Abia Crusaders, has debunked reports that the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, is the consensus governorship candidate for the zone in the 2023 Abia state governorship poll.
Aside Bishop Onuoha, over five natives of the Abia North zone had emerged governorship candidates of their parties. The list includes; Prof. Gregory Ibe (APGA); Dr. Ukpai Iro Ukpai (NNPP); Chief Chibuike Jonas (ADP); Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu (APP); among others.
Chairman of the group, Chief Mbaronye Obialor, explained that the purported endorsement of Bishop Onuoha as consensus governorship candidate was done by a single individual in the person of Dr. Uduma Nnate without the consent of stakeholders of the zone and described the action as ‘nothing but political fraud taken to ridiculous dimensions’.
He disclosed that his group had embarked on extensive consultation with prominent elders and groups and discovered that the endorsement of Bishop Onuoha as consensus candidate did not have the consent of the people.
Mbaronye enjoined the people of the Abia North zone to remain calm; stressing that the elders of the zone will soon make public the consensus governorship candidate for the zone.
He said; “The purported selection of Bishop Sunday Onuoha as a consensus governorship candidate for Abia North is a personal and solo concoction of Dr Uduma Nnate since it doesn’t represent the general opinions and aspirations of the peoples of the five Local Government Areas that make up the zone.
“The process leading to the selection and announcement of the purported consensus candidate was lacking in transparency, probity and accountability since Dr Nnate did not get the consent of the people of Abia North.
“We enjoin the stakeholders of Abia North zone in condemning this ego-centric political scam by Dr Nnate capable of promoting strife and unhealthy rivalry among the body politic, and ultimately truncating the bid to give God’s Own State the best, most equipped and sufficiently prepared candidate.”
