Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, is currently on war path with his predecessor, Chief Mao Ohuabunwa, over the abandoned Arochukwu- Ohafia –Bende road project.
Ohuabunwa, who is the PDP senatorial candidate for the 2023 election, had while inaugurating his campaign council, alleged that Kalu abandoned the N5.2 billion road project which he (Ohuabunwa) attracted to the zone during his tenure at the senate, from 2015 to 2019
The former senator also alleged that Abia North district has lost its voice since he (Ohuabunwa) left the senate as nobody speaks for the people of the area and vowed to defeat Kalu in 2023.
“Nobody speaks for us again. The senator now representing Abia North zone abandoned the N5.2 billion Arochukwu-Ohafia-Bende federal road project I attracted before I left the senate. Something has to be done urgently, and for us to recover, we cannot afford to stand aloof. We must speak out now,” Ohuabunwa said.
He also carpeted Kalu for keeping silent over the insecurity problem ravaging the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi axis of the AbIa North senatorial district.
However, Kalu, in a reaction by his media aide , Sunny Idika, said that Ohuabunwa is envious of Kalu’s 63 completed road projects across the 5 LGAs of the zone , stressing that the former senator’s only achievement was the sharing of frying pan during his tenure.
He further stated that Ohuabunwa’s claim on the Arochukwu-Ohafia –Bende road points to his failure as a lawmaker for the 12 years he wasted at the House of Representatives and Senate when compared to over 63 road projects executed by Kalu in the last 3 years.
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading story in some online newspapers credited to the Abia North senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mao Ohuabunwa. Ohuabunwa was quoted as having cast aspersions on Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, erroneously alleging that Kalu abandoned N5.2billion project he attracted. The former senator who became famous for sharing frying pan as his constituency project in the 8th Senate also said the people of Abia North lacked a representative since he left the senate.
“Ohuabunwa’s statement is an insult to the masses’ integrity. It is a futile attempt of a frustrated and rejected politician to assess the outstanding three-year performance of Kalu who was adjudged as the best performing Senator in the 9th Senate by the Senate Press Corps for executing massive developmental projects for his Abia North constituents.”
