Three cases of Monkey pox disease outbreak has been confirmed in Abia State.
Dr Joe Osuji, Commissioner for Health, Abia State who confirmed the development, said the 3 cases have been treated and discharged from the hospital.
He added that the 3 cases were reported in Umuahia South, Ikwuano, and Aba North Local Government Areas of the state.
Assuring that the situation has been brought under control, the Commissioner said the contacts were traced, treated and discharged.
He also said that 5 samples had been taken to Abuja for further investigation.
Osuji advised residents to maintain environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene to avoid contracting the disease.
Chief Epidemiologist, Abia state, Lady Peace Nwogwugwu, who also confirmed the two cases, explained that the state government is on top of the situation and advised residents to main social distancing and shun body contacts adhere to health guidelines.
