Two unidentified gunmen enforcing Monday Sit-At-Home ordered by the Indengenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were gun down in the early hours of Monday by the police along Umunze road, Orumba South Local Goverment Area of Anambra state.
An eyewitness said that the hoodlums had gone about in a hummer bus setting fire to people’s vehicles and motorcycles before Police responded to distress calls and took them out.
The Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu while confirming the incident in Awka said, the police operatives on crime prevention patrol in the early hours of today along Umunze Road engage armed bearing gunmen allegedly enforcing sit – at – home in the state.
According to him, the operatives neutralize two of the miscreants and recover a white Toyota Hiace Bus with no reg nos.
Ikenga said that the miscreants where obstructing the movement of innocent road users going for their businesses.
“The hoodlums forcefully collect their motorbikes and tricycles, chase away the passengers and the set the motorcycle or tricycle ablaze.
“Meanwhile, the Command operatives has intensify patrol within the state and the situation is being monitored,” he said.
On the wanton destruction at the headquarters of Idemili North Local Goverment Area of the state, Ikenga said It took quick intervention of police responding team to contain the demage the hoodlums planed in the Idemili North LGA secretariat.
“Unfortunately, some of the offices and official vehicles inside the LGA were affected by fire. Meanwhile no life was lost and normalcy has been restored in the area. This incident happened in the early hours of today please,” he said.
