A House of Assembly aspirant in Abia State, Comrade Dannie Ubani, has raised an alarm over alleged plot by the State government to clone and print fake voters and national identity cards to impersonate the authentic statutory delegates for the state Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Gubernatorial primaries in the state.
Ubani, who is vying for the Isiala Ngwa South state constituency, further alleged that the state government plans to use soldiers and policemen to intimidate people to achieve their plans to install Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s anointed candidate, Professor Uche Eleazar Ikonne.
Crisis had erupted in the state chapter of the PDP following the zoning of the governorship position to Abia Central and Abia North senatorial zones and the imposition of Ikonne on the party.
Abia Government sources told Pointblanknews.com that Governor Ikpeazu is highly worried over the overwhelming rejection of Ikonne from the three senatorial zones of the state. Even majority of the politicians from Governor’s kinsmen in the Ukwa Ngwa area which includes Ikonne’s kinsmen from Umunneato bloc in Abia Central senatorial zone have reportedly rejected him as the anointed candidate.
Pointblanknews.com further gathered that the 3 man delegate election is Ikpeazu’s major joker to deliver Ikonne as the statutory delegates of the party in the state are said not to be favourably disposed to the Governor’s candidate.
Those knowledgeable about partisan politics opined that following the non holding of the 3 man delegate election in the state, the PDP national secretariat will have no option than to conduct the party primaries with only the statutory delegates.
According to the sources; “Governor Ikpeazu is highly worried over the rejection of his anointed candidate, Professor Uche Ikonne, even from Ukwa Ngwa kinsmen. He has continued to threaten party officials at all levels and state government officials, yet it is clear that Ikonne is not accepted by majority of the political class. Some people blame the rejection on Ikonne’s age while others blame it on Ikpeazu’s failure to adopt a candidate from Abia North. The protest over the 3 man delegate election is another issue frustrating the Governor on his plan to install Ikonne because he is aware Ikonne stands no chance with statutory delegates. All the elders of the PDP in the state; Senator Adolphus Wabara; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; Senator Emma Nwaka; Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; Chief Ndidi Okereke; Chief Charles Ogbonnaya and others are angry with Governor Ikpeazu. So, you can see that there is problem for the Governor and his anointed candidate.”
