Ahead of the 2023 elections, a chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA) in Abia State, Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu, has promised to return the party to winning ways and rescue APGA from those he described as using the party for political merchandising.
The Court of Appeal, Owerri judicial division, had recently sacked Rev. Augustine Ehiemere and declared Ukaegbu as the APGA state chairman.
Ukaegbu lamented that APGA in Abia state is now a shadow of itself since he was ‘pushed out’ of his position by those he described as the enemies of APGA.
He stated that those presiding over APGA in Abia are only after their stomachs and do not have the interest and capacity to grow the party.
According to him,“The problem of APGA is that those running the party in Abia are ‘Nicodemuses, who would collect taxes in daytime and run to Jesus Christ at night for salvation. They run to the running party at night to strike a deal. This is why we must do away with political merchants who have no means of livelihood than sucking the blood of APGA. Those leading APGA in Abia have no business being in politics.
“They are not interested in growing the party. Before they conspired against me, APGA in Abia was more than what it is today. In 2014, I defeated the PDP state chairman for the IPAC chairmanship position. I was the first chairman of IPAC in Abia. But since their sponsors introduced confusion in APGA, have you ever seen the party rise to the prominence we had when we were there? Today, we only have one elected member of APGA in the Abia State House of Assembly out of 11 seats the party got in 2015. No party grows by that kind of arrangement. This only happened because tickets were handed over to PDP members who lost tickets and defected to APGA. I will return APGA to winning ways. Politicians who have heard of my return as state chairman are already trooping to APGA for the 2023 polls.”
Ukaegbu warned that the party risks not fielding candidates in the 2023 general elections in the state if it fails to comply with or appeal the Court of Appeal judgment which affirmed him (Ukaegbu) ,as the authentic state chairman of APGA.
