Okolie was arrested on the grounds of alleged links with an IPOB member and then slammed with terrorism charges after activists protested against her illegal detention

The 21-year-old Gloria Okolie has finally regained freedom after police snubbed several petitions, including a court ruling seeking her arraignment or freedom.

Okolie was arrested in Imo State by the notorious Intelligence Response Team (IRT) formerly headed by the suspected drug baron, Abba Kyari.

Okolie regained freedom today (Wednesday) after spending over 150 days in illegal police detention where she did the laundry and cooking for the dreaded IRT operatives.

On November 23, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted Okolie bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties.

The arraignment of Okolie before the court followed several petitions to the police IGP, Usman Baba, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Ruling on the bail application, the presiding judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo admitted her to bail with sureties one of whom must be at least a level-14 Civil Servant while the other must own landed property and must have lived at the present address for at least two years.

Okolie who was accused of an offence bordering on terrorism was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly being friends with a suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

She was later transferred to Abuja, despite efforts by her family members to secure her release.

Okolie’s lawyer, Ihensekhien Samuel, who commended the judge for admitting her to bail though the terms were stringent but they would apply for variation in due course.

Okolie and her co-defendant had remained in Suleja Correctional Centre custody while waiting for the fulfilment of their bail conditions, which has now been perfected.
