Obi, the running mate of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election, had declared his intention to vie for the PDP presidential ticket, noting that he would run for the post of Nigeria’s President in 2023 if his party zones its ticket to the Southern region of the country.
The SEC added that it has also resolved that the party congresses as already scheduled to commence from February, 19, 26, and March 5, 2022, for wards, local governments and state, should be implemented as planned.
The Anambra PDP State Executive Committee added that the decision to commence the congresses as scheduled was occasioned by “a rare show of leadership ability displayed by the former governor of Anambra State and leader of the party in the state His Excellency Mr Peter Obi who created room for members to vote for or against the scheduled date.
“The party also urged His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi to take a shot at the presidential race, and that members would purchase the nomination form for the former governor.
“This decision of the party became expedient following a motion moved by Chief Ken Emeakayi and supported by Chief Okey Muo Aroh,” the Anambra PDP SEC stated.
