The All Progressive Congress, (APC), Abia State chapter, has elected a new state chairman to replace the late chairman of the party, Deacon Enyinnaya Harbour with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Dr. Alex Otti,Dr. Uche Ogah, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu absent.
The APC in Abia is divided between the mainstream Chief Ikechi Emenike and Hon. Donatus Nwankpa faction. The Emenike group produced the ward, LGA and state executives of the party in the state.
Deacon Harbour died in November 2021, after a brief illness.
Chairman of the special state congress committee, Mr. Kolawole Babatunde, stated that the national working committee of the APC had fixed the congress to fill the vacant position in the state executive committee of the party.
He announced that Chief Kingsley Ononogbu polled a total of 1,069 votes to emerge chairman of the party.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected state chairman, Chief Kingsley Ononogbu promised to provide effective leadership to the party and urged APC members to work assiduously to win the governorship and presidential seats for the party in the 2023 general election.
