The chairman was said to have sent emissaries to the HOD to change her position with no success.
Sources told Pointblanknews that Nwanosike had met the chairman at the council and greeted him when suddenly the chairman started shouting at the woman , accusing her of frustrating his adminstration.
He allegedly slapped the HOD and hit her with a log of wood.
“The problem has been brewing since last week when we heard that the Chairman asked the HOD to append her signature to a document but the HOD declined. The chairman also sent some people to plead with the HOD but the woman stood her ground that she won’t append her signature to any document that would hunt her in future when the chairman would have served out his tenure.
“Yesterday , he met the HOD at the gate of the council and the woman greeted him. The chairman started shouting at the woman accusing her of frustrating his administration. He slapped the HOD and hit her with a plank. The woman sustained injuries , it could have been more if some council workers did not stop him.”
Angered by the chairman’s action , the workers of the council emarked on protest ,calling on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to sack the chairman.
While addressing the protesting workers, State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees,(NULGE), Comrade Ikechi Nwaigwe, said the union is giving the state government 48 hours to address the grievances of the workers or risk industrial action.
He warned that the union wont tolerate council chairmen assaulting workers and called in the Governor to sack the Aba North council chairman.
He disclosed that the chairperson of Ugwunagbo council ,Mrs Joy Nnata, last month ,sent thugs who assaulted NULGE delegation over the election of local NULGE officials.
