A group under the aegis of Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC, has called on “stakeholders, political and religious leaders in the State, to come together to tackle the menace of insecurity currently plaguing the State.

Mr Fidelis Echendu spokesman of the Coalition, while briefing journalists in Owerri on Wednesday expressed worry that “a peaceful, serene Imo State has suddenly become a place insecurity is gradually finding a taproot

According to him,”Innocent citizens have also fallen victims of the ongoing menace with reported cases of extra judicial killings.

“More worrisome was the gruesome murder of a prominent politician from the North, Ahmed Gulak, a former presidential Adviser, who was gunned down in Owerri recently.

“The Killings have made it imperative for the growing insecurity in the State to be tackled head on before it escalates

The IAC called on politicians in the State “to shun political leanings, close ranks and find an amicable solution to insecurity in the State in cahoots with the state government. This is important in order to guarantee peace in our State ahead of the next general elections.

“It is only in an atmosphere of peace that elections can take place. This is why politicians should not sit on the fence as the menace of insecurity ravage the state. We must speak out and save our State from further drift to anarchy.
“The safety of our state is paramount. If we can guarantee our safety, then we can talk of elections” the watchdog stated.
