Angry reactions have continued to trail the death of Ahmed Gulak, a former aide to ex Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who was gruesomely assassinated in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Nigerians have lamented the unfortunate death of the chairman of the committee which conducted the 2019 APC governorship primary in Imo State and are calling for a discreet investigation to be carried out on the matter, suspected to be a ‘carefully planned assassination’.
The deceased was reportedly killed on his way to catch a flight at the Sam Mbakwe Airport when armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry which conveyed him and two other passengers.
Confirming the ugly development , Imo State police command spokesman Bala Elkana said Mr Ahmed Gulak had left Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor any sister agency despite the fragile security situation prevalent in the South East and Imo in particular.
Accounting to Elkana ,”Imo Police Public Relation Officer, “he left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six-armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport,”
He said Mr Gulak was the chairman of the committee which conducted the 2019 APC governorship primary in Imo State that produced the incumbent Governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma, as the candidate of the party.
Reacting on Gulak’s death, via his twitter handle POB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, described Gulak’s death as a “professional assassination.”
He insisted that members of the group were not responsible for Gulak’s death.
He described reports that the Nigerian intelligence community had accused IPOB members of killing Gulak in Imo State,as unprofessional.
” Uzodinma and APC knows about Gulaks death, we do not know anything about his movement, talk more of him being in the state. Nigerians believe this because they hate IPOB, Biafra.”
Also reacting, the National leadership of Ohanaeze Youth Council(OYC) led by Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka has accused the Nigeria Police and Soldiers in Imo State of sabotaging the genuine effort of Sen. Hope Uzodinma in halting increasing rate of insecurity in the state..
Comrade Igboayaka noted that the deliberate hostility, brutality and killing of Innocent citizen in Imo state has sent a wrong signal to Ndi Imo over the administration of Sen. Hope Uzodinmma.
He said ,”for over two months, the brutal killing and arrest of innocent Imolites by Nigeria Police and Army is very suspicious. At this critical time, Sen. Hope Uzodinma should look deep and examine the activities of Nigeria police and Army in Imo State Igboayaka lamented.”
Adding its voice ,The Igbo National Council (INC) worldwide said it’s deeply worried over the increasing violent attack and militarization of the Igbo Nation territory by dreaded armed Fulani Machineries and military gang who were deployed to Igbo Nation to kill our people and decimate our population. We have observed the desperate reckless engagement of the murderous Fulani armed military gang against the armless Igbo population in our own territory.
The group in a release by Conrade Chilos Godsent ,President, INC said,”the ongoing Operation Show of Force in Igbo Nation States by the purported Nigeria joint military gang is part of the project of the Fulani Ruling Cabal ruthlessly attack and invade the Igbo Nation before 2023, which they had failed to achieve through the RUGA Program and the merciless attacks by the Miyetti Allah sponsored Herdsmen killings inter-alia.”
“Within the last four weeks residence of Imo, Benue, Rivers, Abia, Enugu, Anambra and Akwa Ibom States respectively has been subjected into heavy attacks by the so called Unknown Gun Men (UGM) and the Nigeria counter joint military squad. This attack has resulted to the arbitrary arrest, torture and killings of civilians in the name of hunting for Unknown Gun Men (UGM).”
“Scores of civilians are been killed on daily basis yet the Igbo Political Elites has kept mute in the face of this unholy onslaught against the Igbo Nation States in Nigeria while their Fulani counter-parts are seriously speaking out to support their people. “
“With tears in our eyes, we are compelled to remind the Igbo Political Elites that “coward die many times before their dead but the valiant never die but once”. This is the right time for Igbo Political Elites to rise and speak in defense of the Igbo Nation or remain silent ever as history will not forgive them. “
