There was palpable fear in the heartland city of Owerri last night when several gunshots were heard at various points like the popular Ama Jk , Mbaise road and Ama Hausa area, a settlement of many northerners in the capital of Imo State .
The incident which is becoming a norm in the state took place less than 24hours after similar occurrence happened at Orji by Okigwe road in ,Owerri North LGA.
EasternVoice gathered that anxiety gripped the residents when sporadic shooting was heard in the area at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
A resident who pleaded anonymity said no casualties were recorded as residents were already in their abodes before the shooting spree commenced .
We suddenly heard gunshots and everyone took cover as there was palpable fear. It lasted for about thirty minutes before they withdrew.
“No casualties were recorded and no injuries sustained. Security agencies in the state have been put on notice and we believe that the situation is under control,” he said.
However, efforts made to reach the outgoing Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to several phone calls and messages made to his phone line.
