The new Commissioner of Police, Imo State, Mr. Abutu Yaro has vowed to restore peace ad stability ,charging the officers and men of the state command not to be deterred by the recent attacks police formations and killing of policemen across the state.

Yaro, who resumed office on Thursday as the helmsman of the state police command, told journalists in Owerri that though the unwarranted attacks and killings affected the psyche of policemen in the state, but such evil action would not deter them from restoring peace and stability in the state.

He said, “When your colleagues pay the supreme sacrifices, it will affect the morale and psyche of their co-workers.

“But that will not deter us because it is a thing of honor to die for the service of your country. Deaths occuring in line of duty is not sufficient to deter any policeman from defending his fatherland. In some climes, that’s what some officers work for.”

Yaro said the command under his watch would work to restore peace and stability in the state.

He also sought partnership of media practitioners in the state, stressing that the enormous security challenge in state required collective engagement of all and sundry to surmount.

The new Imo CP also tasked media men to be more patriotic and to avoid eulogizing criminality through their reporting, warning that such act hampers efforts that guarantee peace and progress of the state.

In his words, “As we are all aware, the challenge at the moment is enormous but with the corporation of all of us, especially from members of the fourth estate of the realm, we will achieve positive results. I want to enjoin you to continue to do your best to project the ideals of safety, security and patriotism.

“I also want to appeal to you too to endeavor to do your best like all other Nigerian patriots not to eulogise criminality but to ensure that criminality is condemned and aberrant behaviors are in check. I do believe that we are all partners in progress.

“The safety, peace and progress of our state and country is a national duty that is imposed on us all. It is our hope that in the days ahead, we will work together to ensure that the peace of the state and country is enhanced through our individual and collective actions.”

The Police boss continued, “Within the period the Imo State Police Command will be under my watch, we will do our best to revive our visibility policing by way of ensuring that police assets and personnel are seen in public domains and in ungoverned places because visibility policing has the potentials of reducing criminality.

“Beside that, we will do our best to engage community policing because crime prevention requires all society approach”

Yaro used the opportunity to reassure residents and citizens of the state that the security forces were willing, ready, able and determined to provide them a safe and secured environment where they could pursue their businesses peacefully, where they can have a peace of mind to sleep with their two eyes closed at home.

“Also, they should be assured that Imo State will bounce back to peace, progress and stability through the instrument of our activities”, .
