Trial of suspected killers Of Anambra Uniben student begins

Anambra state government has filed papers at the High Court, Neni for the trial of principal suspect(s) in the murder of one Miss Chinenye Promise Nwoye, an undergraduate of University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Miss Promise was ladt year strangled to death at a hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that nine witnesses have been lined up by the prosecution counsel.

However, the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) may have contributed in stalling the trial of the suspect(s).

Miss Promise, who hails from Ire village Abba, was reportedly strangled to death inside room 057 Akuu Hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, after she was lured to the facility for the dastardly act on Aug. 27, 2020.

Principal suspect in the matter, Kingsley Ogbonnaya, aged 24, from Amovu, Arochukwu in Abia State and Chinedu Igwilo, presently at large, were accused of killing the victim by binding her hands and feet, and strangling her, which led to asphyxiation and eventual death.

The deceased, who had been laid to rest months back, was said to be on scholarship at the Uniben, and had opted for computer lesson at Abagana, following the outbreak of COVI-19 for which schools were closed.
