Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has raised alarm over alleged plan by the Federal Government to deploy Military in the South-East geo-political zone of the country.
A statement issued at the weekend and signed by the Organization’s Secretary General, Maxi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, warned on the dangers of any military deployment in the South-East geo-political zone.
The statement emphasized that the consequences of such military deployment in the zone would be counter-productive .
According to the statement, “the South-East zone comprising Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu States, respectively, had remained the nation’s safest place both for foreign and local investments.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide stated that its beliefs and suspicions were reinforced through evidences of serial attacks and violence perpetrated in the South-East zone by “unknown gunmen”.
“Few weeks after United Kingdom warnings of exodus of Northern bandits heading towards Southern part of Nigeria with provocative Agenda to incite crisis, anarchy and promotion of civil disturbances in the peaceful South-East and South-South zones for political reasons”.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resist the temptation of military deployment to the South East as the consequences might be disastrous .
The statement reiterated that Ndigbo has implicit confidence in the operations of Eastern Security Network (ESN and Ebubeagu), respectively.
It added that the military should focus on the insurgency in the North East and North West geo-political zone of the country.
“Ndigbo don’t need military assistance now except there are plans to deny the region of Presidency come 2023”, the organisation stated.
